GENESIS - IN THE BEGINNING - OUR FOUNDATION

The Bible is made up of what we call 66 books, of which 39 are in the O.T. and 27 making up the N.T.

The Bible is written by 40 authors. Some were doctors, lawyers, prophets, kings, fishermen and just ordinary every day men.

Many of the authors lived in different time periods extending about 6,000 years.

Each book is based on one theme.

Each author tells a different aspect of the history of the world, about God, about the coming Messiah and much more.

And though the history of the Bible extends some 6,000 years and written by some 40 authors, the Bible is one whole, meaning that there is harmony throughout as if written by one man.

For example, if several blind men were asked to describe what an elephant is simply by touching it, you would get many different stories.

One man who touches the elephant’s leg would describe it as tall, solid and thick.

Another touching only its tusk would say that it is hard, smooth and pointed.

Another touching only its ear would say that it is large thin and flexible.

Yet another touching only its tail would say that it is short, thin and wiry.

Each blind man tells a different aspect of what the felt, yet even though their stories all are different, they are not wrong.

They simply told a different aspect of the same story.

But when you put together their different views of what an elephant is like, you get a complete picture.

This describes what the Bible is like. It is 66 books, all telling about the same thing, the same theme, but from different perspectives.

What is the first book of the Bible called? It is called Genesis.

The word Genesis means “Beginning” or “origins.”

The Book of Genesis is a book which tells how all things began.

If we were to go to a concert and were asked by our friends; “what was the concert like, tell me everything, starting from the beginning,” you might say something like this.

I went to a Pink Floyd concert in 1975 in Hamilton and just as the band was about to begin playing, a large model airplane flew over our heads and smashed onto the stage exploding just as the band began to play “Dark Side of the Moon.“ It was an awesome concert. True story.

The Book of Genesis is the beginning of all that we know about nearly all aspects of life.

It is the beginning of everything, of every aspect of the how’s, the why’s, the when’s of how life began on planet earth and the creation of all the galaxies and everything in them.

It tells the beginning

of how man came to be.
of how marriage came to be.
of how sin came to be.
of how the many nations and language’s came to be.
of the reasons and the whys of war.
of how the different religions came to be.
of how God made Himself known to man.

It tells of why He created man, where we are going.
It tells of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and how much He loves us.
It points us to the end of time as we know it and the result of His love for man and of His hate of sin.

There is nothing that you can think of that does not have its origins in one aspect or another in the Book of Genesis.

When you build a house, it is like anything else that has ever been built, it had to have had a beginning, a starting point.

The beginning of most buildings built with bricks has what is called the corner stone.

A corner stone unites, joins two walls of the building together.

A building of importance for example will often have an important dignitary who will lay down the first brick, marking the beginning of the construction of the building.

It is considered to be the beginning, the foundation on what the rest of the building will be built upon.

Likewise the Book of Genesis is the beginning, the foundation onto which not only all of the rest of the Bible is written upon, but it is also the beginning, the foundation upon which God has built and pointed us to show us how we ought to live our lives so that we can enjoy life now and eternally with Him.

Without the knowledge of how and where all things began, we would never know why God created us.
We would never know why man and woman marry, what we should eat and not eat, what and why things are good or bad for us, and much, more.

What happens when you knock out the foundation of a building?
The building will begin to collapse because the rest of the building no longer has anything to stand upon.
Therefore we can safely say that the foundation stone of a building is important to the life and endurance of the building.

If you begin to take away portions of the foundation, even a little bit at a time, the building will still stand for a time, but it will eventually begin to crumble and eventually fall because the rest of the building will have nothing to stand upon just like when you take away an important part of a dominoes tower.

At home you are taught to not lie, steal or cheat.

Today, government leaders, business bosses, sports figures etc. whom should be setting a good example for us to follow are themselves lying, stealing and cheating for their own greedy gain.

So, if we learn that to lie, steal and cheat is okay, it would follow that the Bible is wrong on that point, as far as they are concerned, and we might as well take out of the Bible the pages that speak against lying, steal and cheating.

For thousands of years now, mankind has decided that it is okay to bow down and worship things which are made by man’s hands, even though these objects cannot hear or speak.

So if that is okay, then we might as well also take out of the Bible passages that tell us that there is only one God and that we should not bow down and worship anything or any other.

Likewise today many tell us that it is okay to have sex with someone other than your husband or wife, or for homosexuality, abortion etc.
What is abortion after all, but the taking of one’s life. It is murder, and we all know that God calls murder a sin.
Well then, likewise if that is the case we might as well also strip out of the Bible all passages that speak against these things, because it is no more legitimate.

So now you begin to see what man is doing to God and His Word the Bible.
Man has steadily been tearing apart, breaking down the foundations of God’s Word.

If I were to continue ripping out portions of the Bible that man thinks is no longer relevant to him, then there would virtually be nothing left of the Bible.

Out goes love thy neighbor as thyself, because now there is not much of a punishment for assaulting one another.
Out goes all references to prayer, and to love, and to caring for one another etc.
Out goes basically the 10 commandments and all moral laws.

We are seeing the beginning of the total collapse of our world because the Foundation stones of God’s Word are gradually all being taken away.

Is it any wonder then that the depravity of man has gotten so bad that it is no longer unusual for a rapist to get a few months in prison if anything at all?

Is it not surprising that we read in our newspapers daily how this store or that store is getting robbed, of businesses getting ripped off by their own employees?

Is it no wonder that guys like Lance Armstrong are found to be cheating in bicycle marathons by taking steroids to improve their abilities over others? That’s called cheating!

Is it no wonder that countries are falling apart because their elected officials are embezzling, stealing thousands of dollars, ripping off us, the tax payers, and using tax payer dollars for totally unnecessary things.

Is it no wonder that God does not seem to be blessing the U.S., the once strongest country in the world, both militarily and economically.

Why is all this going on?

It is because man has decided he no longer needs God in their lives.
Mankind is gradually stripping, breaking away all aspects of God from their lives.
Man is breaking all the foundations built by God out of their lives.
So now, what is left?
Not much at all because this world’s foundations are breaking, crumbling into a pile.

That is why God told us to build our homes, our lives upon the solid foundation (rock) of Jesus Christ.
Jesus tells the story of a man who built his home on the sand, but it fell down because it was not built on a solid foundation.
But the man who built his home, his life upon the solid rock did not fall because it was built on a solid foundation.

If you think that you do not need God in your life, go ahead and try to live your life without Him.
Go ahead and take Him completely out of your life little by little and see what will happen to you.
But don’t be surprised that eventually you will see your life begin to crumble away after you have kicked Him out of your life.
Don’t be surprised if and when you are standing before Him to give an account of your life that He says;

“Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels“
(Matthew 25:41 King James Version)

You can think that God is a myth and that you do not need Him in your life all you want.
But your disbelief does not mean that God is not real and that His foundations, His Words are not true.

One day, whether you want to believe it or not
“For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”
(Romans 14:11 King James Version)

That is a truth, whether you believe it or not.

I would pray that every one of you would be as the wise man who built his home, his life upon the solid foundational Word of God whom is Jesus Christ.

I would pray that if you have not already done so, that you would take the next few moments and ask God to reveal Himself to you.

I would pray that you would begin to rebuild the foundations of your life by trusting the gospel message as Truth where it says:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
(John 3:16 King James Version)

I would pray that you would believe fully in your heart that Jesus Christ came down to earth, whom as God, but also in the form of a man lived a perfect, holy, righteous life in complete obedience to God the Father.

I would pray that you would fully believe in your heart that He came to seek the lost, which is you and me.

I would pray that you would fully believe in your heart that He went to the cross willingly, to pay the penalty for your sins by dying on the cross, shedding His blood in your place, so that you would not have to die for your sins and spend eternity in Hell. Hell is an awful place, and eternity is a very, very, very long time.

For without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins. In other words, without His shedding of His blood, there is no way for you to be ever forgiven of your sins. And the penalty of sins is death.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
(Romans 6:23 King James Version)

I would pray that you would fully believe in your heart, that though He died, He also rose from the dead showing that He is indeed God, your creator and that He has the power over life and death.

Because of this he has the right to take control of your life if you will allow Him.

He will not force you to. That is a choice that only you can make.

This free gift is just that, a free gift and that all you have to do to receive it, is to take it.

No money, nor anything you can do will ever get you into heaven.
It is only through Jesus Christ, His way that you can enter into heaven to live eternally with Him.

It is up to you, to build your life on the solid rock of Jesus Christ if you will let Him.

The choice is yours; none else can make it for you.

„Now is the day of salvation.”
(2 Corinthians 6:2 King James Version)

What will you do with Jesus Christ?

André
